Staff and parents at a Jarrow nursery celebrate a ‘Good’ Ofsted inspection

A South Tyneside Council-run nursery in Jarrow is celebrating a ‘Good’ Ofsted inspection.

Stanley’s Nursery, in Jarrow, is celebrating its second ‘Good’ Ofsted rating in a row as it maintains the ranking from its previous inspection.

During the visit, Ofsted inspectors found that the nursery offers a “broad and balanced curriculum” that helps all children to learn while staff supprt children’s self-led play.

It was also noted that children with special educational needs or disabilities benefit from tailored teaching which supports their learning.

The inspector’s report stated: “Children benefit from supportive relationships with the kind and caring staff. This helps them to feel safe, secure and ready to learn.

“Staff support children’s language development well. Children are consistently engaged and busy at play. Staff carefully plan the environment and adapt their teaching to help children to learn more.”

Staff recevied praise for their close working with parents and it was noted that a trip to a local library for the children and their parents had resulted in more families using the facility.

Sarah Minihinnet is one of the parents who uses the nursery and she has praised the staff for all the work that they do.

She commented: “I have had all three of my children attend Stanley’s at Jarrow which has been an amazing experience for all of us.

“The staff are friendly and have a caring approach to looking after my youngest boy. They have helped so much with my children’s development with daily activities and encouragement.

“We are going to miss them as it’s our last term here, so big thanks to them all.”

Councillor Jane Carter, Lead Member for Education and Skills, has welcomed the latest result from Ofsted.

She said: “Early Years education is so important as it lays the foundation for future learning and success.

“This latest rating is further evidence that we are succeeding in our mission to give all our children the best start in life.”
