Staff held at knife point during robbery at South Tyneside shop

A masked man threatened a member of staff at a South Tyneside shop with a knife as he robbed the business.

The incident took place at Rays Convenience Store in Mountbatten Avenue, Hebburn, at 6.15pm on Wednesday when a masked man went into the store and threatened the staff member with a knife.

He stole cash, tobacco and cigarettes before making off.

The offender is described as 6ft 2inches tall, medium build, wearing a black ski mask with the eyes cut out, a black jacket, black bottoms, white trainers and marigold gloves.

The member of staff was not injured.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident and reassurance patrols are being carried out in the area.

Inquiries into the robbery are on-going.
