McClaren, already without Massadio Haidara and Kevin Mbabu, hopes midfielder Jack Colback will have recovered from his hamstring problem in time to line up at left-back.
Taylor, meanwhile, hasn't played a Premier League game since August, but the 29-year-old has recovered from a long-term hamstring injury and is fit and available.
McClaren said: "We’ve got Steven Taylor, who is coming back to fitness. We have to look at the wounded and get a team out for Saturday."
Newcastle remain 18th in the league and two points adrift of safety.
