Still time to give opinions on South Tyneside's smoke control areas

South Tyneside Council wants to understand how people use wood burners, stoves and open fires at home.

South Tyneside Council is asking residents and other people across the borough to present them with their views on smoke control areas – and there is still time to respond.

A smoke control area is a place where people and businesses must not: emit smoke from a chimney, buy or sell unauthorised fuel for use there unless it’s used in an ‘exempt’ (Defra-approved) appliance.

Some areas of South Tyneside, but not all of them, are smoke controlled areas. However, that could change in the future.

The council wants to understand how people use wood burners, stoves and open fires at home.

The public’s feedback is designed to help the council to understand what information and support people may need if changes are made. The online survey is currently open to anyone whether they live, work, study or just visit South Tyneside.

The survey can be taken at www.survey.alchemer.eu and it closes on Sunday, September 27.
