The striker, on a third-year scholarship, has spent the season on the sidelines with an unspecified injury.

But Gosforth-born Heardman – who hasn't featured for the Under-21s since late last season – has been offered a six-month professional deal by the club.

The contract will give the 20-year-old a chance to prove himself when he returns to fitness.

Newcastle have informed a number of third-year scholars, including Ben Pollock, that they will not be offered deals.

Pollock, Luke Charman, Louis Johnson, Jake Trodd and Lewis Suddick will also leave United in the summer.
