The pair netted in last night’s 4-3 Under-21 Premier League Cup defeat away to Everton.

Rolando Aarons also made his comeback from injury in the game to put himself in the frame for a place in the squad for tomorrow’s Premier League home game against West Ham United.

Riviere and Marveaux are yet to feature for the first team this season, while Aarons has been sidelined since September.

Striker Riviere, back from a long-term knee problem, opened the scoring for Peter Beardsley’s side at Southport’s Haig Avenue.

Everton levelled, but midfielder Marveaux restored Newcastle’s lead from the penalty spot after Aarons was brought down in the box. The home side netted twice before Callum Roberts equalised for United, but Courtney Duffus scored a 90th-minute winner for Everton.

Meanwhile, Adam Armstrong’s loan at Coventry City has been extended until the end of the campaign.

Coventry manager Tony Mowbray said: “He’s progressing well, and we’re delighted that Newcastle feel that he is in the best environment for his future development.

“With more games, I’m sure he’ll continue to improve.”

Midfielder Gael Bigirimana’s loan at the Ricoh Arena has also been extended.
