Teddy Bear tale comes to South Shields theatre
The Customs House in South Shields is staging a fun new story featuring bedtime stories, the seasons and teddy bears.
Northern company Freehand Theatre, one of the country’s leading theatre companies for children, is bringing its new production Frogs and Snails and Teddy Bear Tales to the Mill Dam theatre.
Lizzie Allen, writer and director, said: “We know that most children are very excited by their birthdays and are counting the hours until the special day arrives.
“Our teddy hero cannot get to sleep on the evening before his birthday. We have woven together a tale about the seasons and about how the years go round and round. Our ideas for the show involve a rotary whirligig clothes line and a lot of washing!”
The play is performed by actor Simon Hatfield, with a head full of stories, busily working in a shed at the bottom of his garden.
Simon added: “This show is a lot of fun to perform. We have spring circuses, teddy bears picnics and hibernating winter bears. We also have gorgeous music composed specially for the show and a very intriguing theatre set.”
Children are invited to bring their teddy to share the performance with them.
The play, which is on a national tour, is aimed at three to seven year-olds, but there is plenty to entertain the whole family.
Frogs and Snails and Teddy Bear Tales is on at noon and 2.30pm on Saturday, January 30.
