Teenage pedestrian taken to hospital after collision on Stanhope Road in South Shields

A teenage pedestrian has been taken to hospital with minor injuries following reports of a collision in Stanhope Road, South Shields.

Emergency services, including Northumbria Police and the North East Ambulance Service, attended the scene on Stanhope Road, shortly before 2pm on Thursday, August 4 following a report of a collision between a pedestrian and a car.

The road had to be closed while an 18-year old pedestrian was taken to hospital with minor injuries and the driver of the car remained at the scene while they assisted police with their inquiries.

The road closure caused some congestion in the area while the incident was dealt with by Northumbria Police, but has since reopened.

The force is now asking for anyone who may have seen what happened, and has not yet spoken to police, to contact them as soon as possible via the website or by calling 101.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 2pm today (Thursday), police received a report of a collision between a pedestrian and a car on Stanhope Road in South Shields.

“Emergency services attended the scene where an 18-year-old male pedestrian was taken to hospital with what were believed to be minor injuries.

“The driver of the car remained at the scene to assist officers with their inquiries. The road has since been re-opened.”
