Dale Birkett attacked a man inside the Heaton Hotel bar in Shields Road, Byker, on November 21 last year.

He slashed his victim's throat, which left him needing 40 stitches.

Birkett was arrested and charged with wounding.

He pleaded guilty to the offence in March, and when he appeared at Newcastle Crown Court on May 5 he was sentenced to six and a half years in prison.
