Tottenham Hotspur 1 Newcastle United 0: First visit to rebuilt Wembley ends in defeat for Rafa Benitez's side

A second-half goal from Harry Kane gave Tottenham Hotspur a 1-0 win at the national stadium tonight.

The club, which had last played a game at the old Wembley 18 years ago, remains 10th in the Premier League ahead of Sunday's final game of the season against Chelsea.

Rafa Benitez made two changes for the game, recalling Matt Ritchie and DeAndre Yedlin to his starting XI.

Newcastle had the better chances before the break at Wembley, where they were backed by just over 3,000 fans.

Tottenham couldn't break their visitors down, and United created a series of opportunities. Jonjo Shelvey struck the post with a free-kick, while Jamaal Lascelles forced a save with a header. Dwight Gayle should put another chance over the bar.

At the other end of the pitch, Martin Dubravka stopped a Christian Eriksen set-piece.

But there was no way back for United once Kane put Tottenham ahead in the 50th minute. The England international exchanged passes with Heung-Min Son before beating Dubravka with a shot from just inside a crowded box.

The game also saw Kenedy make the final appearance of his loan from Chelsea.
