Driver taken to hospital after two-vehicle crash in South Shields

The incident, involving a van and a car, happened on the junction of Green Lane and Crossgate on Wednesday, December 11.

A spokeswoman for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service confirmed both crews from South Shields Community Fire Station were sent to the scene and that a woman was cut from her vehicle.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman added: “At 11.35am we received a report of a two-vehicle collision at the junction of Crossgate and Garden Lane, South Shields, involving a van and a car.

“Emergency services are currently in attendance and both lanes remain blocked. Motorists are asked to avoid the area to help ease congestion.”

The North East Ambulance Service Trust confirmed it was called to the scene at 11.40am and sent one crew from its Hazardous Area Response Team.

The woman was taken to South Tyneside District Hospital.
