Traffic delays set to hit major road in South Shields town centre.
Crossgate Bridge in South Shields is to undergo strengthening and resurfacing work from Monday.
Repairs, which will include renewing the concrete which has been damaged by water over time, is expected to take up to 12 weeks to complete.

Hide AdThe road above will also be given a new waterproof membrane before being resurfaced.
To enable the work to be carried out, lane closures will be put in place along with temporary traffic signals. The nearby St Hilda's car park will be closed to the public from tomorrow to accommodate the contractor's cabins and storage of materials.
The footpath below Crossgate, which provides a pedestrian link along the route of the old waggonway, will also be closed for the duration of the works.
