Tyne and Wear Metro said a broken-down train just outside of Fellgate Station, as it headed towards Pelaw, was the cause of the issues, which were reported earlier on Tuesday, October 27, before the service returned but with delays by 11.45am.

The breakdown meant trains were unable to run in either direction between Pelaw and Brockley Whins stations, with a Metro shuttle service run between Brockley Whins and South Hylton.
