Dramatic photos show car flipped on side as woman taken to hospital following crash near South Shields Town Hall
Northumbria Police have confirmed they were called to a road traffic collision outside of the council building on Westoe Road in the town at 6.21pm.
Two cars are involved in the crash and the road is closed while emergency services remain at the scene.

Hide AdThe North East Ambulance Service has confirmed that they were called to the collision at 6.20pm and one woman was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital.


Injuries have not been confirmed.
Readers have shared dramatic photos from the scene of the crash which show a car that is flipped onto its side.
A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: “Police were called to a road traffic collision on Westoe Road in South Shields at 6.21pm.
“The incident involved two vehicles.


“Police remain at the scene and the road is closed but with minor disruption.

Hide Ad“The North East Ambulance Service have been in attendance but injuries are not known.”
Stagecoach North East has confirmed that is services are avoiding the area by diverting via Western Approach as a result of the incident.
In a Tweet the bus operator said the E6, x20 and 30 have been diverted while the incident is ongoing.
It said: “E6, x20 and 30 diverting via Western Approach leaving South Shields this is due to an road traffic accident near the Town Hall.”
