Metro passengers warned of weekend of work which means no trains on section of South Shields line
Metro passengers have been warned the service will be off on a section of the line through South Shields during the weekend ahead.
No trains will run between Chichester and South Shields stations as upgrade works are planned for a viaduct along that part of the line.
The works will take place all tomorrow, Saturday, October 31, and Sunday, November 1, in both directions.
A spokesperson for Nexus, which runs the network, said: “A replacement bus service 900 will be running in the affected area.
"Metro tickets and passes will be accepted on the bus and tickets can be purchased from the driver – please try to have the correct change.
“Trains will be running to all other areas but may not be to the usual timetable.
"Check bus and train times before travelling and leave extra time for your journey.”
There will be a further closure of the line on the weekend of November 21 and 22 between Gateshead Stadium, Jarrow and South Hylton, again in both directions, while track work is carried out.
A bus replacement service will run throughout the works, with the 900 between Gateshead and Jarrow and 901 between Gateshead and South Hylton.
Express buses will also be running, bus X900 will call at Gateshead, Heworth and Pelaw only and bus X901 will call at Gateshead, Heworth and Park Lane only.
Anyone who needs help planning their journey can call (0191) 20 20 747, with lines run from Monday to Friday between 9am to 5pm.
