Operator Nexus Tweeted shortly before 7.20am today, Monday, May 23, that a train has been withdrawn from service at Gateshead Stadium due to a fault.

The move was having a knock-on effect with a gap in the service of up to 15 minutes between Gateshead Stadium and South Shields with commuters urged to leave extra travel time.

The train returned to service at Pelaw shortly after 8am .
