Metro warns of train cancellations as passengers urged to only make essential journeys during North East lockdown
Nexus, the operator of the Tyne and Wear Metro service warned that some of its services will not be running due to ‘reduced driver availability.’
Trains affected include services from South Hylton to the airport and trains from Chichester to St James, with a number of cancellations throughout the day.
It comes as passengers are advised to only make essential journeys and to use the service for the likes of work or education during the North East lockdown.
A message to passengers on Metro Twitter account read: “Some services have been cancelled due to reduced driver availability.
"Please leave extra time for your journey.”
Another message said: “The Government has announced fresh coronavirus restrictions:
“Only use public transport for work and education, or if essential for other purposes; face coverings; travel at quieter times if possible.”
