This is when the Shields Ferry service will resume following weeks of repair work

The Shields Ferry is set to resume service this weekend following weeks of repair work to the north landing.

Nexus, the public body which operates the cross-Tyne ferry, halted the service in February as a safety precaution to allow further repairs to be completed on the north landing.

Earlier this week, the operator was unable to say when the ferry service would run again, but now it has confirmed that the Shields Ferry will be back in service from Sunday, March 21.

The first sailing from South Shields to North Shields will be at 10.15am.

The Shields Ferry will resume on Sunday, March 21.
