Tyne and Wear Metro issues travel warning ahead of North East Take That concert

Nexus has issued travel advice for people travelling on the Metro on the same day as Take That at the Stadium of Light.

Users of the Tyne and Wear Metro have been warned one upcoming day is expected to be very busy across the network.

On Tuesday, June 9 British based boyband Take That will perform at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland and both commuters and concert goers have been told to expect the Metro system to be very busy on the day of the event.

Doors for the stadium show will open at 5pm.

Nexus, the team which operates the Tyne and Wear Metro, has trains across the system will be very busy from 3pm. This will be especially true on the Pelaw to South Hylton branch, which includes East Boldon.

Official advice from Nexus adds: “Whatever your destination, anyone boarding at Newcastle city centre stations may be asked to queue outside between 3pm and 8pm, so we can manage the large crowds we expect safely.

“If you aren't heading to the concert avoid travelling at these times if possible.”

After the show crowd control measures will be in place for Metro passangers.

Extra services will be running on the Pelaw to South Hylton branch, which includes East Boldon, although these services are still expected to be “very busy” with Nexus telling travellers to leave extra time for their journeys.

The advice adds concert goers with purple, red or yellow entry tickets should travel to Stadium of Light Metro station while fans with blue, green, orange, platinum or pink accessible entry tickets are best travelling to St Peter's Metro station.
