UPDATE: Metro services resume after South Shields-Hebburn line reopens

There was misery for Metro passengers in South Tyneside on Sunday as an overhead line fault meant no trains were running between South Shields and Hebburn for around eight hours.

Metro services have been disrupted between South Shields and Hebburn

A replacement 900 bus service was introduced, initially running every 30 minutes before the frequency was increased to approximately every 15 minutes.

The service finally resumed just before 4pm.

A message posted on the Tyne and Wear Metro Twitter account read: "Service has resumed between Hebburn and South Shields, subject to delays. Thank you for your patience."
