Victim suffers 'serious burns' as air ambulance called to South Shields street

The Great North Air Ambulance was among those called to Norham Avenue, South Shields, on Saturday October 10 following reports of an injured man.
Northumbria Police confirmed to the Gazette that a 28-year-old man suffered serious burns to his body.

Hide AdIn a statement released on Monday, October 12, the force said he remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries.
A spokesperson said: “Shortly after 9.30am, October 10, police received a report of an injured man on Norham Avenue, South Shields.
"It was reported a 28-year-old man had suffered serious burns to his body.
“Emergency services attended and the man was taken to hospital by air with life threatening injuries, where he currently remains.
“There is not believed to be any third party involvement.”

Hide AdSpeaking on Saturday, a spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) confirmed that its crews attended a private address in the Horsley Hill area of town on Saturday morning, alongside colleagues from the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS).
A statement from NEAS said: “We dispatched a double-crewed ambulance, three crews from our Hazardous Area Response (HART) team, an officer and requested support from the Great North Air Ambulance Service.
“One patient was transported by road to the RVI.”
Crews from Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service (TWFRS) also attended the scene, it was confirmed by a spokesman on Saturday.
