Water supply disrupted after main bursts on busy road

Northumbrian Water is working to restore the water supply to homes, schools and businesses.

The service has been disrupted in the Harton Lane area of South Shields after the water main ruptured earlier on today.

Northumbrian Water said it expected the supply to be restored by 4pm and has since issued an update saying the repairs were complete.

A spokesman for the company has said anyone who experiences discoloured water, cloudy or milky water or a reduction in pressure should get in touch.

St Wilfrid's RC College has said it is aware of the issue and has been contacted by the firm, which has told its leadership the school will have water tomorrow.

On a statement via its Facebook page, it added: "If this changes and we need to close the school we will inform you via text and via social media."
