'We can dominate Newcastle United' - Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic

Fulham aim to 'dominate' Newcastle United this weekend, according to boss Slavisa Jokanovic.

Jokanovic's men had the beating of United on the Championship opening night as Matt Smith nodded home a Tom Cairney corner to get Rafa Benitez's second tier campaign off to a disappointing start.

And the Serbian believes that result gives his side plenty to be positive about heading to St James's Park on Saturday.

More than that, though, he thinks his players can dominate 'physical' United on their home turf.

"We are confident," he said.

"We are going to try and find our style - we are going to try and dominate Newcastle.

"They are a physical, very strong team. They are going to look and put the ball behind us and around the space behind our centre-backs.

"We are going to try and move the ball and create our chances.

"I don’t expect so many surprises in this game."

Meanwhile, the Fulham boss has heaped praise on former United target Cairney.

In fact, Jokanovic claims he's one of the best players in the whole of the second tier.

United did take a look at Cairney, who netted the Cottagers late, late equaliser in midweek against fellow promotion chasers Leeds United, at the start of the January transfer window.

But the Magpies were priced out of a move for the 26-year-old former Scotland Under-21 international, with Fulham rumoured to want in the region of £20million for their prized asset.

"Tom Cairney is a very important player for us,” Jokanovic said of his attacking midfielder ahead of the visit to St James's Park.

"He’s probably one of the best in the competition."
