Wearside League preview: Jarrow want repeat, Boldon semi-final bid, Harton look to bounce back

Jarrow travel to Prudhoe Town for a Wearside League clash, buoyed by becoming only the third side this season to deny Stockton Town all three points.

That performance last Saturday – which saw the game end goalless – showed Bell what his players are capable of.

And he hopes they can continue with that effort, despite seeing his selection hopes hit by injury and absence this weekend.

He said: “After last week’s superb performance and deserved draw against Stockton, we were hoping we could take that performance into this weekend’s game.

“However we face a number of players missing this weekend which will see our squad really stretched and depleted in numbers.

“Gary Frater, Nick Pain, Peter Kane, Andrew Barclay and Dean Black are unavailable but we are hoping Fin Lynch will be able to make it. There are doubts around James Allsop, Liam Bayles, and Kai Elliot.

“I’m almost certain Grant Pressling will not recover in time from injury and Alexander Bone is really doubtful having picked up an injury in last weeks game.

“On the positive side, David Smith, who signed last week and put in an excellent performance against Stockton, is a great addition to our squad. Lee Burrell, Lea Brand and Andy Wilkinson return to the squad too.

“This is the way it goes sometimes and the team from last week will completely change but such is the quality within the squad I am confident we will be able to deal with the number of lads we have missing.

“Everyone involved in the club was a credit last week but we need to maintain that level of commitment and performance as we look to move up the league.”

Stockton face South Tyneside opposition again when they host Boldon CA in the Sunderland Shipowners’ Charity Cup, with a place in the final at stake.

Boldon, who beat neighbours Harton and Westoe in their derby clash last weekend, travel with a full strength squad, including the returning Liam Cox and Shaun Graham.

Back in the league, Harton hope to bounce back from their derby heartache when they host Murton.
