Temperatures are expected to hover around freezing throughout the day ahead, leading into an icy start for the coming week.

Hide AdForecasters predict one or two possible showery intervals in South Shields around midday. The next 24 hours are set to be considerably drier compared to Friday and Saturday, February 5 and 6, but still bitterly cold.
In a summary statement ahead of today, a spokesperson for the Met Office said: “Cold or very cold with a brisk northeasterly wind, which will continue bring frequent sleet and snow showers off the North Sea.
"Further accumulations are likely. Some brighter interludes. Maximum temperature 2 °C.”
Overall, it is likely to be colder than yesterday, but also drier with brisk easterly winds persisting.
