Met Office issue yellow weather warning as strong winds of 50mph forecast to hit the North East
The yellow weather warning is in place from 5am to 9pm on Tuesday, January 7, with gusts of wind expected to exceed 50mph in some areas.
Gusts of wind are forecast to top 45mph across the region and in some coastal areas could reach 50mph.

Hide AdThe Met Office has warned that heavy winds could cause some short term loss of power.

Travel disruption across the region is also expected including delays to public transport are likely.
And along the coast it is likely that sea front roads and coastal communities will be affected by spray and large waves.

Hide AdIt will be extremely blustery throughout the morning but high wind speeds will pick up in the afternoon into early evening.
The weather warning is in place across the east of the UK from Edinburgh down to Leeds.

There is likely to be some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport.

It is likely that high-sided vehicles will be delayed on exposed routes and bridges.
There may be some short term loss of power and other services.
