Met Office updates Christmas Eve and Christmas Day forecast for the North East
The Met Office has updated its hour-by-hour forecast for the North East as the key festive dates get closer.
The weather service initially released its detailed forecast for Christmas Day late last week with slight changes made over the following days.

With just a couple of days remaining until the festivities, this is what the Met Office is predicting for the days around Christmas, as well as the big day itself.

The day before Christmas Day will be grey, but dry according to the Met Office. Temperatures are expected to remain fairly consistent, starting at 6°C and only rising to a high of 7°C.
Sunny spells are a possibility in the early afternoon, although these will not last for long.
Wind is also thought to remain calm, with highs of just 8 miles per hour expected.
The night from Christmas Eve into Christmas Day will remain dry and calm, falling to around 5°C overnight. However, it is thought the air will feel cooler than this, maybe pushing close to freezing.
What is the Christmas Day forecast in 2025?
Kicking off with the coolest temperatures of the day of 5°C, the North East will wake up to grey skies and minimal wind once again.
These temperatures are only expected to rise as much as three degrees throughout the day. This switch will come during the late morning with forecasters predicting 6°C conditions as we settle in for our Christmas dinners in the early afternoon.
Despite these conditions, the weather service is warning the temperatures may feel cooler, potentially as low as 2°C from sunrise until the latest hours of the morning and after 6pm.
These temperatures will remain consistent through the afternoon and into the evening, only falling back to 6°C from around 7pm.
Much like Christmas Eve, grey skies will remain throughout the day with less than a 10% chance of rain throughout the full day. Wind speeds are only likely to peak at 10 miles per hour.
Boxing Day will see much of the same, albeit a degree or so warmer than the previous days. Wind will peak at 9 miles per hour while minimal wind is expected once again.
