Not quite Spanish weather but sunny weekend ahead for South Tyneside
It won’t be as hot as Barcelona in South Tyneside this weekend but the weather looks set to bring plenty of sunshine.
After temperatures in the borough soared to 15C earlier in the week, making it hotter than Madrid and Barcelona, forecasters say weekend temperatures will drop back to 11C.
But those looking forward to their weekend exercise shouldn’t be disheartened as the sunshine looks set to continue, with a bright start on Saturday, February 27.
It will be a clear and sunny morning, although there is expected to be a mix of sunshine and clouds in the afternoon.
Overnight will also be dry and clear with temperatures of around 6C.
It will be a cloudy start on Sunday, February 28, but by late morning the clouds will make way for the sunshine to return, which is set to continue into the afternoon.
Highs on Sunday will be around 10C but this will drop to 5C by the evening when the cloud cover is expected to return.
Looking ahead to the start of the week, the Met Office predicts it will largely be cloudy on Monday, March 1 and Tuesday, March 2 – meaning that people should make the most of the weekend’s sunny spells.
Temperatures are also expected to drop, with highs of 8C on Monday and just 7C on Tuesday, a far cry from the unseasonably warm weather of the previous week.
In a statement online, the Met Office said: "It will often be cloudy, especially along the coast where patchy mist and fog could arrive, but still some sunny spells will develop, particularly inland.
"Temperatures remaining near average.”
