We’re expanding our community bus service to reach more South Tyneside residents
A South Tyneside charity is expanding its community bus service following a successful trial period.
Key Community has announced that it will be extending its Key Community Bus extended service until the end of March following an initial four-week trial, which launched at the end of November 2025.
The bus brings affordable food, advice and community activities direct to residents across South Tyneside as it looks to help households shop more sustainably and make their budgets go further.
The Key Community Bus operates Tuesday to Thursday inclusive - with the bus operating a more regular, four-weekly timetable, increased from two to three stops per day to meet demand for new locations during the trial period.

The new stops added for the Key Community Bus include:
- The Lonnen.
- South Shields Town Hall.
- South Tyneside College.
- Galsworthy Road Play Area.
- Bede Burn Primary School.
- One Trinity Green.
- Askins Lodge.
- St Oswald’s CE VA Primary School.
The bus offers affordable, good-quality food on its lower deck, as well as advice and support services on the upper deck.
It also provides community activities for residents to be able to connect, learn and thrive - with all services on the bus open to everyone in the community.
Jo Benham Brown, Business Development and Communities Manager at Key Community said: “Our bus is all about bringing increased choice, affordable food, related advice and community activities directly to residents.
“We want to be where people need us most, helping households stretch their budgets.
“Shopping with us means shopping sustainably and with conscience - if you want your money to support a community project rather than a large corporation, the Key Community Bus is the place to do it.
“Please help spread the word and encourage a friend or neighbour to hop aboard. Everyone is welcome.”
