'˜World class' Fabio Borini goal should have given Sunderland win, fumes Sam Allardyce

Borini struck in the last minute with a sensational strike from a tight angle to earn the Black cats a 2-2 draw at home to Palace.

Sunderland had led through Dame N’Doye’s deflected effort, but collapsed in spectacular style as former striker Connor Wickham returned to haunt them with two goals in five minutes.

Borini’s late strike earned a vital point, however, and sent Sunderland out of the relegation zone on goal difference to leave Allardyce with mixed emotions.

He said: “That should have been the winner, not the equaliser. Our frailties have come to light again.

“It was world class...absolutely out of the top drawer for goals you can score in a football match.

“It’s in the back of the net before the goalkeeper can even begin to move...pace, power, accuracy.

“Instead of a wonder goal giving us three precious points, it’s saved us, and in the end I’m pleased about that.

“We didn’t keep control of ourselves. Jan Kirchhoff was controlling the midfield and when we lost him we lost control.

“I’m disappointed in the last half an hour. For me, it’s about the panic that comes over the team.”
