Young dancing champion Rosie is up for award

A six-year-old dancing champion has been nominated for a Best of South Tyneside award after achieving national success.

Little Rose Blair, has been nominated for the award in the Young Performer category by members of the public who have recognised her numerous wins in competitions across the country.

Rose, a dancer at the Art of Dance by Suzanne Stuart, in Coronation Street, South Shields, excels in ballet and has been crowned British Ballet Champion twice –- in 2014 and 2015.

She has also scooped first place as British Modern Champion in Blackpool in 2015 after competing against children from up and down the country.

Her mum Emma Capaldi, from Broughton Road, South Shields, said her daughter stumbled into dance by chance when she was aged two.

“It was completely by accident,” she said.

“I was walking past Suzanne’s school on the way to the shops and saw a sign for a baby ballet class, so though I’d sign her up. She loved it.”

The year one pupil at St Bede’s RC Primary School in South Shields, does ballet, modern and tap, as well as song and dance.

Rosie, who also competes locally, practices her dancing four times a week.

Her mum added: “She started competing when she was three and a half years old and got placed quite often.

“At four years old she was British Champion in ballet, after competing in Blackpool.

“She always does really well and we’re really proud of her.”
