With the weather slowly improving, people all over the country will be coming up with places to visit and things to do when the sun comes out, and a trip to the beach is usually at the top of everyone’s list.
The North East has a wide selection of beautiful beaches, ranging from tranquil secluded spots to popular beaches which become alive during the spring and summer months.
There’s plenty to choose from and with each beach being different, there’s bound to be something to suit your needs, but which are some of the North East’s best beaches according to TripAdvisor?
Roker & Seaburn Beaches Sunderland
This long stretch of beach is great for a brisk walk, walking the dogs or letting the kids run free.
There’s plenty of space to sit down and enjoy a picnic and there are even a wide variety of eateries located close to the beach, so if you’re wanting to make a day of it, this is a great beach to go to.

St Aiden Beach Bamburgh
This is one of Northumberland’s most serene beaches, with splendid views across to the Farne Islands and Bamburgh Castle.
St.Aiden beach is a peaceful place where you can relax, unwind and enjoy miles of beautiful clean beaches and dunes, with hardly any people around. Also, dogs are allowed here, which is an important factor for those who want to take their dogs for a walk along the beach.
Marsden Beach, South Shields
Marsden bay is steeped in history and folklore and the beach itself features beautiful rock formations and islands.
This picturesque beach is a great place for kids to explore the small caves and rock pools and there’s even a popular pub-restaurant at the bottom of the cliffs.

Seaton Carew Beach, Hartlepool
Located in the Seaton Carew area of Hartlepool, this beach offers plenty of space and if you walk south from Newburn Bridge, either on the sand or on the promenade, you can see the North Yorks Moors to the distant south and the Headland promontory to the north.
There’s also a lot to do in the town itself and there are a variety of good quality fish and chip shops/restaurants and traditional ice cream shops.

Embleton Bay, Embleton
Another splendid beach on the Northumberland coast, Embleton beach is a great place for a peaceful walk where you can take in the views of Dunstanburgh Castle.
There are very few rocks or pebbles and it’s a great location for dog walking or bird watching.
Warkworth Beach Warkworth
Located in Amble, Warkworth beach is long and sandy and if you’re searching for a bit of peace and quiet, you’re guaranteed to get this during the week.
Here you can collect shells, walk your dog or enjoy a day out with the family, and there’s plenty of space as this beach stretches from Amble to the south, all the way up to Alnmouth.
