Newcastle supporters spent more than £600 following the Toon last season

Research of 2,000 footy fans identified how much they splashed out on match tickets, food and drink at games, replica shirts, and more during the past 12 months or so.

Magpies supporters parted with an average £30.40 for the latest shirt – and 61 per cent opted to have a name printed on the back of it.

They made it to six home fixtures on average at a cost of £195.88 in total, and spent £261.37 on top of that on food and drink.

Among those polled, a whopping 90 per cent purchased a season ticket - for £446.70 on average.

Great expectations

A spokesperson for 888sport said: “There’s never a dull moment at Newcastle – and in recent years most of the eventful things have happened off the pitch.

“But it looks like that’s finally changing – there’s a great deal of optimism and expectation on the side now.

“And it’s looking like there’s going to be plenty of new signings during this transfer window – could a trophy be a strong possibility next season?”

Toon fans made it to five away fixtures last season - travelling a total of 430 miles in the process.

Of the Newcastle fans polled, 12 per cent put a bet for their beloved side to win the league every single year.

But with the new ownership now in place and Eddie Howe starting to make the squad more his own, supporters - it’s quite likely that number will increase.
