Red Arrows King’s Birthday flypast: Route and timings announced for Buckingham Palace aerobatic display team

The Red Arrows will take part in the Trooping the Colour flypast this weekend for the King’s Birthday. The aerobatic display team is the final jewel in the crown of all royal flypasts and will be back this weekend.

The Trooping the Colour will take place on Saturday (June 17) at Buckingham Palace before the royal family make their way onto the balcony for the iconic flypast. The King will be joined by his wife, Queen Consort Camilla, as well as the Prince and Princess of Wales and their three children, George, Charlotte and Louis.

The flypast has been a royal tradition for 110 years, with the display first taking place for King George V as part of the Trooping of the Colour in 1913. It is expected the fly past will be identical to the one expected for the coronation fly past last month which was significantly reduced due to rain.

70 military aircraft were set to make their appearance following the King’s crowning ceremony which would have featured iconic planes such as the Spitfires and Hurricanes - the latter part of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

The official route for the whole Trooping  the Colour flypast has officially been announced. Military Air Shows has revealed the map which gives us a good indication of the official route of the Red Arrows. The display team are normally the last to fly in the display, sending out red, white and blue smoke as they fly over Buckingham Palace.

The official route  has been announced ahead of the Trooping of the Colour flypast by Military Air shows. The site has created a map revealing the flight path of the display team for Saturday (June 17).

The Red Arrows will leave their RAF Waddington air base at 12.20pm before flying over Buckingham Palace at 1.06pm to finish off the flypast.

What time is the flypast

The flypast is expected to start at 1pm with the first aircraft making their way over Buckingham Palace. The Red Arrow aerobatic display team are set to make their way over The Mall at 1.06pm to finish off the performance.

What is the route for the flypast

Most of the aircraft will get into position off the Norfolk coastline before making their way over Colchester and down to London. Restricted airspace over England can give a good idea as to the route most of the aircraft will take to get into formation. Most aircraft will follow a similar route to the Red Arrows and will fly over the North Sea, East Anglia, Essex and London before dispersing over Surrey, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire.
