Tiger Woods has had surgery after a serious car crash - the latest on his condition
Tiger Woods has undergone major surgery on his right leg and ankle after a serious car crash in Los Angeles.
The golf champion, 45, suffered multiple and serious injuries including “open fractures” to his legs in the crash on Tuesday 23 February.
Woods was driving a Genesis GV80 when he crashed - a vehicle from the luxury brand of South Korea’s Hyundai Motors.
So, what happened to Tiger Woods - and how is he doing after surgery?
Here is everything you need to know.
What happened to Tiger Woods?
A deputy from the LA County Sheriff's Department said Woods was “fortunate to be alive” after the serious crash.
Police rushed to the scene on the border of Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes at 07:12 local time.
The 15-time major champion had to be “extricated from the wreck” by firefighters and paramedics who opened the car’s windshield to get him out.
Deputy Carlos Gonzalez said Woods was "not able to stand under his own power" before being removed from the Genesis GV80, which “sustained major damage”.
The American golfer was wearing his seatbelt and was "still calm and lucid" when authorities arrived, Gonzalez said.
Woods was quickly transported to a local hospital by ambulance to treat his injuries.
The golf legend was travelling at a “relatively greater speed than normal” when he descended down a hill which is notorious for a “high frequency of accidents”, according to Sheriff Alex Villanueva.
Police assumed that the car had hit the barrier that separated the carriageways, before colliding with a kerb and a tree and rolling over several times.
No other vehicle was believed to be involved in the accident, the Sheriff’s department said.
According to local media reports, Woods is also thought to have been alone in the car when it crashed.
Overhead pictures of the car showed serious damage as it lay on its side on a grass embankment near the road.
