Auction will have huge significance for collectors of North East memorabilia
‘In recognition of over 25 years service on the Board of Directors’
Auction lots with huge North East significance are going under the hammer this week.
They are expected to attract significant local interest when the spring fine art and interiors auctions is held at Anderson & Garland in Newcastle.

Among the standout local lots is a Jaeger LeCoultre Atmos clock which was presented by Newcastle United Football Club to Major William McKeag M.S.M.
The presentation was made to Major McKeag in recognition of more than 25 years of service on the club’s Board of Directors.
The elegant brass cased clock, which is estimated at £300 to £500, features an engraved inscription which reads: “To Major William McKeag M.S.M from Newcastle United Football Club in recognition of over 25 years service on the Board of Directors.”

Major William McKeag was one of the most influential civic figures in post war Newcastle. He was a solicitor by profession and he served as Lord Mayor of Newcastle from 1952 to 1953 and later became Lord Lieutenant of Northumberland.
He was deeply involved in public life across the region. He also spent decades associated with Newcastle United, helping guide the club during a transformative period in its history throughout the mid twentieth century.

The clock will feature as Lot 574 in Anderson & Garland’s Country House & Fine Interiors Auction tomorrow.
Also expected to generate strong regional interest is an important Victorian presentation album linked to one of Tynemouth’s most dramatic political contests.
Offered as Lot 206 in the Fine Art Auction today, the remarkable album is estimated at £800 to £1,200 and contains seven watercolour views of North East landmarks by noted local artists.
The artists include Henry Hetherington Emmerson, Charles James Spence, John Chambers, Aaron Watson and Robert Jobling.
The album includes scenes of Tynemouth, St Mary’s Isle, Shields Harbour and the Collingwood Monument, alongside beautifully executed calligraphic pages.
The work was presented to Joseph Spence Esq. JP by the Liberal Electors of Tynemouth following the fiercely contested General Election of 1885.
The historic album has appeared at Anderson & Garland twice previously, having been sold in Fine Art sales in both 1991 and 2014.
