Let’s raise a toast to a South Shields pub in the news as we salute the New Crown Hotel.

The pub on Mowbray Road had its busiest day ever with record sales during the Great North Run when it sold more than 10,000 drinks, as reported in the Shields Gazette.

It tempted us into looking in the Gazette’s archives for other views from the pub’s past - and we found loads!

Perhaps you were there when the pub held a Zumba fundraising event - or when an angling club held its trophy night there in 1973.
