Roker Park as never seen before has been uncovered in a set of images which have just been published.
John Foster, who used to be the announcer at the football ground, was there when it was finally bulldozed in a poignant year for Sunderland 29 years ago.
He recorded the demolition of the stands, the diggers moving in and the changing face of Roker Park as more of the buildings came down.
Roker Park’s demolition came as SAFC moved to a new home at the Stadium of Light in 1997.
But for many, the old ground still holds fond memories. It witnessed epic Cup runs, an appearance by David Bowie, was bombed in World War II and saw Sunderland become league champions.
