We all have memories of school meals - good or bad.
But with big changes coming in for today’s students, it got us thinking about the great dinner hall scenes we saw in South Tyneside over the years.
Sugary drinks and foods such as ice cream and waffles will be restricted, while deep-fried foods are cut, according to the Department for Education (DfE).
Foods high in fat and salt such as pizzas and sausages will also have to be limited. More fibrous wholegrains and pulses such as lentils and chickpeas will be required on menus alongside main meal options at least once a week.
As changes beckon, let’s enjoy these meal memories from schools across the borough including Valley View, Stanhope, Forest View, Mortimer, Jarrow Cross and St Mary’s

10. Pipe up with your 2008 memories
The South Tyneside Pipe Band was on hand to pipe in the haggis for pupils at St Mary's RC Primary School in Jarrow in 2008.

11. Over in Jarrow
Pupils at Jarrow Cross C of E Primary School grew their own vegetables and then made soup from them with the help of the School Meals Service in 2007.

12. A fond farewell to Margaret
School cook Margaret Greenland was pictured in 2006 as she retired from Stanhope Primary School. She was served her lunch by pupils James Gates and Britney Borrits.
