Happy National Tea Day everyone! I’ve brewed up lots of memories from Wearside and South Tyneside’s past to mark the special occasion.
There’s a 60 year span of scenes from the Sunderland Echo and Shields Gazette archives stretching from 1962 onwards and covering royal wedding tea parties, fundraising events, and even a visit from Prince Charles.
The occasion also coincides with what would have been Queen Elizabeth II’s 100th birthday and there are lots of celebrations planned today.
National Tea Day is organised by the Tea Group and is aimed at celebrating community, tradition and the ‘enduring love of a cup of tea’.
