Two spudtastic takeaway stations have opened, one in South Shields and one in Gateshead, with a third planned for Sunderland soon.
They can be found in the car park of Namaste Indian Restaurant and Prosecco Lounges, at Sunniside, Gateshead, and King George Road, South Shields and open from 12.30-7pm daily.
The people behind Spuds with an Indian Twist have had hungry customers queuing up for a taste of their own unique brand of baked potato. As well as traditional classics – cheese and beans, tuna and sweetcorn or chilli con carne – they also offer a range of Indian toppings including chicken madras, massala or plain curry. And there’s a range of tasty additions too – like crispy onions or coleslaw – and drinks to go.
This could be the best food pairing since fish and chips!

The people behind Spuds are no strangers to success. The Namaste restaurants boast a host of award, including Best in the North East in the English Curry Awards, and they have featured on TV as part of Come Dine with Me: The Professionals, where head chef Boxa and owner Razz won the hearts of viewers.
Razz said they have been both surprised, and delighted, with the response they’ve had to their new Spud stations.
It’s been crazy busy, people are driving from Leeds, Durham , Middlesbrough and Bradford for our spuds, it’s gone viral on TikTok
Claiming to be the first to offer spuds with an Indian twist, he said customers’ feedback has been amazing.
“We’ve been getting messages from social media spud expert Spudman, with over 1million views on TikTok.”
One happy customer took to social media to say: “Have to say I absolutely devoured this! Unreal, soft and buttery potato with loads of sauce and toppings loaded on! The massala was LUSH and loads of chicken in there too!

100% will be returning for more of the curries!! It's located in the car park of Namaste & Prosecco Lounge, which I would also recommend! Love it there!
Another raved: “It’s no surprise these beauties are flying out the door daily – everyone’s been raving about Spuds with an Indian Twist.
“If you’re a fan of Indian food, you’re going to love this. If you’ve ever been to Namaste, you’ll already know how next-level their food is – and now you can grab it loaded onto a proper jacket tatey during the day!”
This fan went for a chicken tikka masala with cheese, crispy onions and smashed poppadum. “It shouldn’t work.. but it does!” he enthused.
Absolutely mint! The potato had that perfect crispy skin with soft fluffy insides, and the curry was packed with flavour. The crunch from the onions and poppadoms just topped it off.
For a potato with chicken curry, madras, tikka masala or with chilli con carne you’ll pay just £6 and you can add cheese or coleslaw for an extra £1
Customise your own spud for £5 per topping, £6 for two toppings or £7 for three. All the curries and chilli are made fresh at the restaurant next door and, as the Spud van is located in the car park, there’s free parking too!
