Belford House too strong for luckless Harton and Westoe

Wearside League Football action between Harton & Westoe (blue white) v Ashbrooke Belford House, played at Harton & Westoe Miners Welfare, South Shields.

A Nathan Burrow penalty saw Ashbrooke on their way, as early as the fifth minute and David Sewell made it 2-0 just after half time.

David Graham reduced the arrears on 57 minutes, but further goals from Steven Bogie (75) and John Coomber (80) sealed the win for Ashbrooke.

Harton’s now find themselves cast adrift at the bottom of the league with just a single win from their 20 games.

They trail their nearest rivals Wolviston by seven points.

In the TWR Shipowners Charity Cup, South Shields Reserves were 4-3 winners away at Coxhoe Athletic.

Chris Foster in the 8th minute gave Crook the lead, but this was cancelled out a minute later when Oli Martin equalised.

Shields Reserves then went ahead on 18 minutes, with a Jonny Hope goal and Coxhoe came back to equalise through Kyle Morris on 39 minutes.

Morris then put Athletic in front in the 69th minute with a superb finish into the bottom corner, but Shields Reserves equalised again after 81 minutes, through substitute Matthew Davidson’s right foot finish.

The game was won two minutes later, when Jai Grant forced home a rebound off the post, to score the winner in an entertaining, end to end match.

Top of the league Jarrow secured a 3-1 away win at lowly Windscale.

Jarrow started well and went ahead in the 15th minute when Kai Elliott scored with a shot from the edge of the 18 yard area.

However, for the rest of the half Jarrow struggled to get into any rhythm, giving the ball away too much.

Windscale enjoyed a lot of possession and caused Jarrow numerous problems.

Windscale deservedly equalised just before half time after Gary Frater had made two great saves.

The second half was different as Jarrow stepped up and controlled the game with Windscale rarely coming out of their half.

Jarrow took the lead again in the 65th minute through an excellent Andy Wilkinson finish, following a great free-kick by Kai Elliott.

Andy Wilkinson scored again with a close-range header after Jordon Mellish had won the first header from a corner.

Jarrow manager Dave Bell said after the game: “The lads should be proud of themselves for the performance and win.

“They worked really hard particularly during the second half and we got a well deserved win.

“We knew it would be a difficult game and it proved just that.”
