The Division One leaders head into Saturday’s top of the table clash with Newcastle Benfield looking to secure a fifth consecutive league win.

And Bolam’s side took their league form into their Durham Challenge Cup campaign as striker Cedwyn Scott scored a double hat-trick in a 10-2 win at Division Two club Washington in midweek.

The Hornets now face two challenging fixtures as they host a Benfield side that are exceeding their pre-season expectations before travelling to Northumberland to take on in-form Ashington.

Bolam insisted his side won’t show any complacency as they look to continue their push for promotion into the Northern Premier League’s second tier.

He told The Gazette: “We need to guard against showing any complacency on Saturday.

“I don’t see it being a problem when the team in second place are coming to our place for a league game.

“The lads know how big a game this is, but nothing will be won and lost this early in the season.

“We know that the emphasis is on us to play on front foot at home, but we also realise that it’s a tough game.

“It’s another game against a top side, we keep playing sides at the top end of the table and those in form, but it’s another challenge that we must look to meet head on.

“We are looking forward to it and we want to keep this momentum going because, although there is always room for improvement, we are doing so well at the moment.”

Bolam has been handed a major boost ahead of the game after former Morpeth Town duo Michael McKeown and Tom Potter both returned to contention.
