Christian Eriksen 'stable' after collapsing during Denmark-Finland Euro 2020 game

Eriksen received CPR on the pitch after collapsing during his country’s fixture against Finland in Copenhagen this afternoon. The game was suspended by referee Anthony Taylor. The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder had dropped to the ground at the Parken Stadium shortly before half-time, leaving players from both teams in clear distress.

A statement from UEFA said: “Following the medical emergency involving Denmark’s player Christian Eriksen, a crisis meeting has taken place with both teams and match officials and further information will be communicated at 19:45 CET. The player has been transferred to the hospital and has been stabilised.”

The Danish Football Union have since revealed that Erikson is “awake”. A statement read: "Christian Eriksen is awake and is (set) for further examinations at Rigshospitalet (hospital).”

Inter Milan, Eriksen’s club, tweeted a message of support with a praying hands emoji. The tweet read: “Forza Chris, all of our thoughts are with you!”

The Football Association said: “Our thoughts this evening are with Christian Eriksen and his family, and all connected with the Danish Football Union.”

Fabrice Muamba, the former Bolton Wanderers midfielder who collapsed after suffering a cardiac arrest during a televised FA Cup game in 2012, also responded to the news of Eriksen’s collapse. Muamba tweeted: “Please God.”

Former Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote died after suffering a cardiac arrest training with Beijing Enterprises in China four years ago.

Meanwhile, England have cancelled their press conference previewing their Euro 2020 opener against Croatia following the medical emergency.
