The Premier League respond to Amanda Staveley's Newcastle United takeover bid

The Premier League’s chief executive has responded to questions about a potential takeover of Newcastle United.

A Saudi-funded group led by Amanda Staveley is bidding to buy the club from Mike Ashley, who put it on the market in late 2017. Richard Masters was asked about the move by Sky Sports News.

“It’s a hypothetical situation,” said Masters, who succeeded Richard Scudamore in the post. “I can’t say anything which adds to the speculation this might be happening or, indeed, might not be happening.”

Ashey was at the Kassam Stadium last night to see the club’s 3-2 FA Cup win over Oxford United.

Masters spoke to the Gazette about fan protests at Newcastle last summer. Masters said: “Obviously, we want all of our clubs to do well. We don’t want there to be fan protests, and neither does Mike Ashley and the people that run Newcastle United.”
