Newcastle United transfer rumours: January latest as Toon in talks to sign highly-rated Hamilton Academical winger Lewis Smith

Newcastle United are putting their January transfer window plans in place by opening discussions with Hamilton Academical winger Lewis Smith, according to reports.

The highly-rated 19-year-old has caught the eye following a string of impressive displays in the Scottish Premiership. Smith only made his full Hamilton debut this season but has already netted four goals and provided a further three assists in 21 matches in all competitions.

The teenager is capable of playing on both wings as well as in a central attacking midfield role and has featured for Scotland’s under-17 and under-21 sides.

According to Football Insider, sources at Newcastle have suggested that the club are hoping to secure a deal for Smith in the January transfer window which officially opens on Wednesday.
