Slimani, on loan from Leicester City, could have kicked his last ball for Newcastle United.

The striker came off the bench in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to West Bromwich Albion at St James’s Park.

Slimani, making only his fourth appearance for the club, kicked Dawson – who went down clutching his leg – late in the game.

The incident was missed by referee David Coote, and Slimani could be punished retrospectively.

Slimani’s “daft” kick was captured by TV cameras, and former United striker Shearer gave his verdict on Match of the Day.

“He will get a three-match ban, I have no doubt about it,” said Shearer.

“It’s stupid. You’ve hardly even played for Newcastl,e and that’s probably the last time he will play for Newcastle. It’s just daft, stupid.”

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez didn’t see the incident.

“Someone told me, but during the game,” said Benitez. “I couldn’t see anything, so we will see.

“At the moment, I’m really upset with the result, and we will analyse the other things later.”

Slimani joined Newcastle on transfer deadline day in January.

The 29-year-old arrived with a groin problem and finally made his debut against Huddersfield Town on March 31.

Slimani joined Leicester from Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2016 in a £29million deal.
