Footage of Mitrovic and Crystal Palace’s Luka Milivojevic celebrating the New Year with a number of others, in an apparent breach of London’s strict Tier 4 coronavirus restrictions, was posted online.

A Fulham statement read: “Following reports regarding Aleksandar Mitrovic breaking Tier 4 restrictions and Fulham FC Covid protocols, the club is looking into the matter fully as it takes a breach of the rules extremely seriously. The player is aware of the club’s disappointment, and of the standards that are expected of him. The matter will now be dealt with internally.”

Fulham’s scheduled fixture against Burnley at Turf Moor today was postponed due to a Covid-19 outbreak at the club. The club said: “Those who tested positive are self-isolating in line with UK Government and Premier League guidance.”

Mitrovic joined Fulham, initially on loan, from Newcastle in 2018. The 26-year-old has scored four goals for relegation-threatened Fulham so far this season.
