Allan Saint-Maximin Covid-19 update as Newcastle United winger returns to Tyneside

Allan Saint-Maximin is back on Tyneside and looking to restart his Newcastle United career – after returning a spell in France with his family.

The winger was allowed to return home late last year to recuperate from Covid-19.

Saint-Maximin has been unavailable since late November, when he missed the club’s win over Crystal Palace after complaining of a calf injury on the eve of the game. The 23-year-old went on to test positive for coronavirus during an outbreak at the club, and Steve Bruce revealed that the disease had hit a couple of his players particularly hard.

Speaking last month, United's head coach said: “Long-term Covid is something which you wouldn’t think possible in young, fit, athletes. Unfortunately, it is so, I'll be governed by the doctors and the medical people,”

Saint-Maximin is understood to have returned to Newcastle this week ahead of tomorrow’s FA Cup tie against Arsenal. However, he is still weeks away from a return.
