The Gazette understands that the Newcastle United winger has been left out of Steve Bruce’s squad for the game at Selhurst Park.

Saint-Maximin, however, is not one of the three players who have tested positive for Covid-19 this week. The 23-year-old – who has struggled for form since signing a new long-term contract at Newcastle last month – is understood to have suffered an injury on the eve of the game.

Meanwhile, Bruce – who was without assistant Steve Agnew for last weekend’s game against Chelsea – revealed yesterday that three players were self-isolating ahead of the Premier League fixture.

"Three in a week for us is the biggest we’ve had, but we’ve adhered to all the protocols and done all the right things,” said United’s head coach, who didn’t name the affected players. “The affected individuals are self-isolating at the moment.”
